Whimsy Blocks - Dragonfly Applique Quilt Block

Dragonflies are symbols of change and transformation. I feel like that is appropriate as we near the end of 2020 and all of the changes we've been through.

You can see the video here on my YouTube channel explaining the block of the month.

So let's get started on the Dragonfly Block!

Get the pattern here.

All 12 of the Whimsy Blocks are 8.5" x 8.5" with a finished size of 8" x 8". The pattern pieces are reversed and ready for tracing on to fusible backed webbing. If you want to know more about doing applique with this method, you can read this post here.

I chose to use a straight stitch and leave the edges raw for the blocks. I choose a variegated rainbow colored thread. That way I can use the thread on all 12 blocks in my quilt.

What to make with this applique? There will be 12 blocks in this series so you could make each block every month and put them together in a wall quilt. That was my first project with the 12 blocks. This block is also the perfect size for a mini quilt or a mug rug. You could put it on a pillow or a t-shirt. The possibilities are endless.
